The UNIJES network (Spanish Jesuit Universities)and ACM (Aristos Campus Mundus) will be holding the 2nd UNIJES Symposium on Social and Christian Thought, “La Iglesia en el mundo: la autonomía de la realidad a la luz de la fe. On the fiftieth anniversary of Gaudium et spes (1965-2015)”, which will be held from 1 to 3 July 2015 in Barcelona.

ACM y UNIJES convocan el II Simposio de Pensamiento Social Cristiano

The Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) and, in particular, the Gaudium et spes (1965) pastoral constitution were an enormous revulsive for the Catholic Church and society at that time. Specifically, Gaudium et spes is the document by which the Church recognises the autonomy of reality, what we might call “the coming of age of humanity”, an autonomy which, in the light of faith, is a great responsibility of all men and women towards history. Fifty years after the publication of this pastoral constitution (1965-2015) UNIJES and ACM will be holding this symposium, which is organised by two of the Ramon Llull University institutions, IQS-URL and ESADE-URL. The aim is to reflect on these issues in the context of today’s world following the path outlined by Pope Francis.

The symposium will be held around four major subject areas:

1) The current state of humanity

2) Theological anthropology

3) The mission of the Church

4) The contribution of university to humanism

Those interested in presenting papers in these four subject areas, or in the general field of current social and Christian thought, should send a two-page, double-spaced abstract of the paper (in Spanish or English) by 4 May 2015:simposiounijes@iqs.edu
