Brief description
The Smart and Sustainable Grid Area is a multidisciplinary research group within the IIT. It focuses on analysing and developing models to simulate and optimise the electrical grids of the future. These grids will enable making the sustainable energy model that 21st century society needs viable. This model is characterised by a high penetration in distributed renewable energy sources, flexible energy demand and the ability to respond, and high service quality levels in line with the digital society in which we live.
The group carries out a wide variety of activities in this field with a notable presence nationally and internationally.
This research activity and development consists of externally financed projects, as accredited by our participation in European projects, national CENIT projections and various others requested by various institutions and private companies.
Our scientific output includes PhD theses, publications in international journals with the most impact in this field and participation in international conferences.
We also develop our own software models to simulate large grids with various types of applications and which can be commercialised via licenses.
Our teaching activity encompasses the postgraduate and PhD programmes in Electrical Engineering and the School of Engineering (ICAI), including the Official Master’s in the Electrical Industry which is supported by the European Commission’s Erasmus Mundus programme and collaboration with EES-UETP educational programmes.
