Comillas hosted the second session of the Global Governance Seminar, on the fiftieth anniversary of Pacem in terris

29 September, 2014

The researchers focused on global ethics, from the perspective of the ethics of the gift and the dynamics of development and its measurement.

The Global Governance Seminar, on the fiftieth anniversary of Pacem in terris, held its second session at Comillas Pontifical University ICAI-ICADE. The researchers of Unijes’ Christian Social Thought group (Jesuit Universities) and the Humanitas Network (Aristos Campus Mundus 2015) focused on global ethics, from the perspective of the ethics of gift and the dynamics of development and its measurement.

Aitziber Mugarra and Arantza Echaniz, from the University of Deusto, opened this working session by redefining the concepts of progress, development and quality of life from a human dignity perspective.  During their discussion, they raised the question of who was really pulling the strings of the “invisible hand” and what were the challenges facing global governance.  José Castro Cea and José Manuel Caamaño also addressed other aspects that influence global governance, from the perspective of the ethics of the gift and global ethics, respectively.

Participants in this seminar included researchers from the Faculty of Theology in Granada, IQS, ESADE, Deusto, Loyola-Andalucía and Comillas.
