More than thirty university students took part in the Aristos Campus Mundus summer volunteering activities

Voluntarias ACM en PerúThe second edition of the Aristos Campus Mundus summer volunteer programmes were a great success. Thirty- two students from the member universities travelled to six countries to put into practice their knowledge and, above all, to gain international cooperation experience.

Seven volunteers collaborated with different social intervention projects led by the Jesuits in the province of Ayacucho in Peru .The activities, which were assigned in terms of each volunteer’s  interests and studies, included education, prevention work with youth at social risk, rights advocacy or assistance to the vulnerable population, among others.

The project in Chile offered a first approach to Latin American reality through cooperation in Country Service, an intervention programme of the National Foundation for Overcoming Poverty which works in communities living in isolation and vulnerability conditions. The nine students who travelled there had the opportunity to work with artisan associations, youth at social risk, disabled associations or the elderly.

In Brazil, six volunteers collaborated with the College of Faith and Joy in the town of Vazantes, through an agreement with the Catholic University of Pernambuco (UNICAP). The aim of the project was to facilitate interchange and coexistence with the local population  through collaboration in creating and developing an urban camp with school-age students, cultural exchange and interaction with Vazantes inhabitants.

The three students in Kenya collaborated with the NGO Nyumbani, which meets the needs of orphaned children and /or those with HIV. The project was carried out in an orphanage village in the Kitui district, 180 kilometres east of Nairobi. Different possibilities of collaboration ranged from formal and non-formal education to social or health attention, or productive, environmental or sustainable energy generation activities.

Three students from the ACM member universities travelled to Tanzania to participate in different educational activities at Loyola High School, the Jesuit school in Dar es Salaam. They also promoted a design for change project with school students.
